3yo Colt by Shamardal - Bred to be a Champion

New Partnership Syndicate. Colt by Shamardal out of a mare by Galileo. He was bred to be a champion racehorse.
This powerful, well built colt by leading Darley stallion SHAMARDAL was born on 9th March 2009. He is in training with GARY MOORE at Cisswood Stables situated between GATWICK & HORSHAM in Sussex. From an early stage he showed plenty of natural ability and speed on the gallops (even though he is bred to want a mile plus) and his first two runs over 6furlongs have been extremely encouraging.

SHAMAHAN's debut at Folkestone in soft conditions saw him finish a promising third behind two experienced horses but we really saw what he is made of at Royal Windsor eleven days later on quicker ground. It was a classy field and he won by an impressive 2 3/4 lengths beating the highly respected odds-on favourite SIGNOR SASSI to leave us dreaming about sending him to the lister Rockingham Stakes at York in October.

Unfortunately he chipped a bone in his knee during the race, he had a successful operation to remove a fragment of bone and recovered well. It is such a shame that his first season was cut short but he has done really well over the winter. He is a very powerful horse with lots of natural muscle and he is a real sprinting type. He is rated 79, a mark Gary feels he can easily exploit this coming season!

Ryan & Phil.JPG

On 17th May 2011 Ryan Moore, Derby winning champion jockey and Gary Moore's eldest son, visited to put the best of Gary's two year olds through their paces. One of the four horses he rode was our colt by SHAMARDAL (nearside) who worked with our 9 time winner, 89 rated SOUTH CAPE (ridden by Philip Hide). Both horses worked very well and the colt certainly held his own against the older horse. Ryan was impressed, and recommended starting him off over 6 or 7 furlongs.
